This chapter examines how religion changed in the Czech Lands (formerly Czechoslovakia) after World War I. Taking into account the transition of hierarchical church structures from empires to nation-states, it observes the diverse characteristics of modern religious movements. These include new liturgical practices and conversions in the Roman Catholic Church, as well as in Protestant and other non-Catholic churches. The author argues that these developments can be described as liquid changes (waves) concerning the religious philosophy of the new state elites rather than political struggles within churches.
