The text deals with Czechoslovak-Soviet relations in the field of gastronomy in the years 1945–1970 from the perspective of imperial and, to a certain extent, colonial discourse. It focuses in particular on the creation of an image of Soviet gastronomy in the Czech environment through the media and specialist press, on the impact of mutual trade in foodstuffs, and on the development of relations between Czechoslovakia and the USSR in the sphere of public catering. Soviet gastronomy had only a limited resonance in Czechoslovakia, but it influenced the form of luxury dining and provided an important impetus for the spread of certain delicacies. Conversely, Czech cuisine was most appreciated in the Soviet environment for its products and dishes associated with the “folk” environment. Although this imbalance could indicate the strength of the imperial relationship between the USSR and Czechoslovakia, it was more likely the result of the propaganda image of the USSR during the Stalinist era.
