Wichtige Impulse für die Entwicklung der tschechischen Sportmedizin kamen nicht nur von Ärzten der Prager Universität, sondern auch von Ärzten, die Mitglieder der Tschechischen Sokol-Gemeinde waren. Auf ihre Initiative hin wurde seit Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts in der Tschechischen Sokol-Gemeinde ein durchdachtes System der Gesundheitsversorgung aufgebaut. Dieses System hatte zum Ziel, Verletzungen von Turnern und Turnerinnen vorzubeugen und ihnen bei Bedarf während des Trainings Hilfe zu leisten. Gleichzeitig bot es Ärzten die Möglichkeit zu umfangreichen Forschungen über die Zusammenhänge zwischen Körper, Sport und Gesundheit. In diesem Aufsatz wird die Organisationsstruktur des sokolschen Gesundheitssystems rekonstruiert, seine Hauptakteure vorgestellt und ihre vielfältige Forschungsaktivitäten im Bereich der Sportmedizin untersucht.

Important impetus for the development of Czech sports medicine came not only from doctors at Prague University, but also from doctors who were members of the Czech Sokol Organisation. On their initiative, a well-thought-out healthcare system was established in the Czech Sokol Organisation at the beginning of the 20th century. The aim of this system was to prevent injuries to gymnasts and to provide them with assistance during training if necessary. At the same time, it offered doctors the opportunity to conduct extensive research into the relationships between the body, sport and health. This article reconstructs the organisational structure of the Sokol healthcare system, introduces its main protagonists and examines their diverse research activities in the field of sports medicine.
