Effect of floods on ground beetles /Carabidae/ and harvestmen /Opiliones/.
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The effect of floods on harvestmen and carabids was studied in the Wet Meadows, an area which is irregularly flooded and becomes inhospitable at the time of floods for most representatives of these two groups. Three hypotheses were tested: (1) the proportion of winged specimens of carabids is greater on flooded sites, (2) persisting populations of harvestmen are found only on sites not subjected to flooding and (3) the proportion of species with deviated sex ratio is greater on frequently flooded sitesthan in steady-state habitats. It was found that macropterous individuals of carabids were over-represented in wet sites, severely affected by floods. Harvestmen were rare in the heavily flooded area but two species colonized a part of the flooded area shortly after the flood. Sex ratio was often biased both in harvestmen and carabids, however, this was site-independent. Concluding, both harvestmen and carabids were severely affected by the floods. A few species survived in the area. Oth
