We found that tiller characteristics and the probability of a tiller to start flowering are related to the tiller position in a clone. Tiller differences were preserved even in suboptimal environmental conditions but disappeared after mowing, which equalized size and ontogeny. Our results imply that ramets of clonal plants are not independent demographical units, thus their position in a clone should be taken into account.
