Effects of tree canopy on herbaceous understorey throughout the developmental cycle of a temperate mountain primary forest
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Species composition of the herbaceous understorey exhibited distinct development in each plot over the 19 years of observation. The DCA analysis illustrates this development, with the variability along the first axis representing the difference between the less developed herbaceous understorey in the growth stage and the most developed herbaceous understorey in the disintegration stage.Based on their responses, we can classify the species according to changes in frequency during the DS alteration. Some species exhibited significant reactions to disintegration, growth, optimum, or in the case of indifferent species, to all three DS.The RDA analysis revealed that the Sum of DBH and AGTB were the primary drivers of the change in herb species frequency, with permutations restricted to temporal changes on individual plots. An increase in these two variables had the obvious effect on most herb species. While the Sum of DBH constrained species in the disintegration stage (G. robertianum, I. noli-tangere, M. perennis), the AGTB predominantly influenced species frequencies and composition in the growth stage (Gymnocarpium dryopteris and D. carthusiana agg.). Most species in the ordination space concentrated in the opposite direction to both the Sum of DBH and AGTB, indicating favourable conditions for the herbaceous understorey. The highest frequencies were found in the disintegration stage, where the Sum of DBH and AGTB exhibited the lowest values. The Sum of DBH peaked during the growth stage, coinciding with the period of maximum competition of the tree layer.
