Die Phänomenologie hat von früh an für buddhistische Traditionen Ostasiens Interesse gezeigt. Schon Husserl verfasste in den zwanziger Jahren des vorigen Jahrhunderts Reflexionen zu ?Sokrates und Buddha?, und Scheler verglich zur selben Zeit die phänomenologische Reduktion mit der buddhistischen Weltentsagung. Am anderen Ende des eurasischen Kontinents waren es zunächst vor allem japanische Forscher, Vertreter der ?Kyoto-Schule?, später auch koreanische und chinesische Philosophen, die sich mit Fragen der buddhistischen Philosophie aus der Perspektive der Phänomenologie befassten. Das Kolloquium will an diese Traditionen anknüpfen und zugleich eine Standortbestimmung der gegenwärtigen Forschung und ihrer Möglichkeiten unternehmen: Wo stehen wir heute in den Versuchen, Ost und West mit Blick auf Phänomenologie und Buddhismus einander begegnen zu lassen?

From its very beginning, the phenomenology has been showing interest in the Buddhist tradition. Already in the twentieth of the last century, Husserl wrote reflexions on "Socrates and Buddha" and, at the same time, Scheler compared the phenomenological reduction with the Buddhist renunciation of the world. At the other end of the Eurasian continent, there were Japanese philosophers, above all the representatives of the ?Koyto School, later Korean and Chinese philosophers as well, who addressed the questions of Buddhist philosophy from the point of view of phenomenology. The colloquium is intended to carry on these traditions and to determine the situation of the contemporary research and its possibilities: What is our position today when we try to letmeet the East and the West with respect to the Buddhism and the phenomenology?
