In einer von seinen letzten Seminaren, in Le Thor im Jahre 1969, hat Martin Heidegger seine philosophische Entwicklung als einen Fortgang durch drei gleichwichtigen Themen konzipiert: Sinn ? Wahrheit ? Ort. Gleichzeitig damit hat er die letzte Phase seines Denkens als ?die Topologie des Seins? bestimmt. Das vorliegende Buch versucht um eine Darstellung dessen, was diese Bestimmung und die damit zusammenhängenden Begriffe wie ?Ort?, ?Raum? und ?Ortschaft? eigentlich für Heidegger bedeuten. Weil der Titel?die Topologie des Seins? in seinem Werk nur selten behandelt ist, soll diese interpretative Erläuterung sorgfältig die Entwicklung seines Denkens von dem fundamental-ontologischen Fragen nach dem Sinn von Sein, über die Versuche die Wahrheit des Seinseigens zugänglich zu machen bis zur späten Topologie folgen. Das Buch bietet also auch eine spezifisch konzipierte Kurzgeschichte von Heideggers Denken.

Heidegger sees his own philosophical way as advancement in three steps: SENSE - TRUTH - PLACE. We follow this path in this book in order to understand what "topology of being" means. The first step (the sense) is connected to Being and Time. The other step points out the contraphenomenality of humans and being (in Contributions to Philosophy, e.g.). Truth understood as unconcealment has the character of a between-space opened up between humans and being. The last step of his path of thinking means for Heidegger an attempt of reaching another structure of truth than the between-space. Heidegger characterizes the truth as the locality of being (die Ortschaft des Seins), which is understood as a permeation of world and things. The locality of being is notstructured as a between-space, but as a "place-space"(Ort-Raum). Complementary, the last chapter of this book interprets Merleau-Ponty's conception of the topology of being as it is sketched in his The Visible and the Invisible.
