Il libro rappresenta una delle migliori monografie recenti dedicate alla vita e soprattutto ad un?analisi storico ? filosofico ? critica del pensiero tomista. In sei parti presenta le opere di Tommaso d?Aquino in un ordine cronologico aggiungendo alcunenuove scoperte ed osservazioni personali di carattere filosofico allo sviluppo del pensiero tommasiano. Una delle tesi pi? discusse di quest?opera ? quella che attribuisce a Tommaso una visione della filosofia autonoma ma storicamente chiusa e sostituitae superata dalla rivelazione cristiana. The book is one of the best recent monographs that, along with a study of Aquinas?s life, offers a historical - philosophical - critique of Thomas?s thought. The book, divided into six parts, presents the works of Thomas Aquinas in chronological order and presents new findings as well as observations on the development of Aquinas?s philosophy. One of the most controversial theses of this work presents Thomas as having a vision of philosophy as autonomous yet now replaced and superseded by Christian revelation. The other amply developed topic concerns the different meanings of necessity with regard to creatures. The Thomistic doctrine of truth (e.g., as adequation) is faithfully presented in the text as a kind of representationalism that is moderately opposed to a certain ultra-realism. The author also gives a sound treatment of the conception of the divine ideas (rationes), as he maintains their properly exemplary character.
