Die Bibliothek des kalvinistischen Humanisten Theodore Beza wurde lange für zerstreut oder gar verschollen gehalten, schon bald nach dem Jahre 1598, als sie an die mährische Adelsfamilie von Zástřizl verkauft worden ist. Der Beitrag charakterisiert die Beziehungen zwischen Theodore Beza und der Zástřizl-Familie, die Geschichte des Verkaufes der Bibliothek und es wird ein Versuch gemacht den Schicksale der Büchersammlung im 17. Jahrhundert zu rekonstruieren. Die Autorinnen kamen zum Schluss, dass die Bibliothek durch Kardinal Franz von Dietrichstein, der Leitfigur der mährischen Rekatholisierung, für seine eigene Bibliothek beschlagnahmt wurde und 1646 wurde sie zur Beute der schwedischen Armee. Deshalb sind einzelne Bücher aus Bezas Biliothek heutzutage in verschiedenen schwedischen Bibliotheken und Institutionen zerstreut, wohin sie aus Böhmen und Mähren kamen. Der komplizierte Schicksal der Bücher aus der Bezaschen Büchersammlung, die sich durch mehrere unterschiedliche kulturelle Milieus bewegte, reflektiert u. a. die Funktionsänderungen des Buches in den Jahrhunderten. Der Beitrag ist ergänzt durch die Liste der bekannten Exemplare aus Bezas Bibliothek samt deren ausführlichen Beschreibung. In der Schlussfolgerung die Autorinnen konstatieren, dass trotz Schwierigkeiten bei der Identifizierung der Bezaschen Bücher können das Kenntnis der sekundären Provenienzvermerke und eine zielgerichtete Recherche in der bestimmten Sammlungen, die die Überreste aus der schwedischen Kriegsbeute beinhalten, in der Zukunft zur Identifizierung mehrerer Exemplare aus dem Besitz von Theodore Beza.

The library of the Humanist and Calvinist theologian Theodore Beza has been generally considered to be scattered or even entirely lost since 1598, when its owner sold it to the aristocratic family of the lords of Zástřizly, based in Moravia. The article outlines the relations between Theodore Beza and the Zástřizly family, the circumstances of the sale of the library and, on the basis of previously known as well as newly found extant items, it attempts hypothetically to reconstruct its later fates in the course of the 17th century. The authors have reached the conclusion that the library of Theodore Beza was acquired during the Thirty Years’ War by the Cardinal of Moravia, Franz von Dietrichstein, the leading figure of re-Catholicisation in Moravia, for his family library, which became part of the war booty of the Swedish troops in 1646. Consequently, individual books from Beza’s library are now mostly scattered in Swedish libraries and institutions, where they gradually came from Bohemia and Moravia. The complicated fate of the book collection of Theodore Beza, which has passed through several different cultural environments, thus i.a. reflects the changing function of books over several centuries. The article is also complemented by a list of known items from Beza’s library including their complex characteristics. In the conclusion, the authors state that, despite the complicated identification of Beza’s books, the knowledge of secondary provenance marks and targeted research into specific book collections containing the Swedish booty will make it possible to increase the number of the known books from the ownership of Theodore Beza in future.
