Global Risks and Conflicts: The Social, Environmental, and Political Consequences
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The author deals with the highly problematic issue of global risks and conflicts which develop within the current context of global interactions. Conflicts are seen between environmental justice and risk distribution related to social inequality and poverty. The complex of global transformations brings ever greater interdependence between economic, political, technical, social and environmental consequences. Most of these became more unsustainable and less manageable. The article analyses the risks and negative consequences we perceive as unsustainable socially and environmentally should be seriously considered as real dangers and relational social processes produced in the real world of the global capitalist interactions over a longer historical period. These risks operate in an anti-democratic framework of social inequalities: both economic and political. For example, sociological analysis can show how contemporary environmental and financial risks are intensifying social inequalities resulting from organized irresponsibility of main institutions. This collective complex of relational processes is reflected as the product of the actions of many different agents. Many risks are constructed on global level, while the negative consequences and catastrophes beat on the local level, poor and working people are vulnerable to damage, often being victims of externalizations. In the analysis, the author analyses that external pressures, globalization, social and environmental destructions are mutually influencing further social destructions and ecological devastation. In the existing uneven development, there is a global long-term conflict between the transnational shift in accumulation and societies organized within a framework of individual nation-states. Globalized financialization led to the domination of mergers and acquisitions and to a debt-based predatory system with the effect of the decline of industrial capacity in many industrial counties and poor. In conclusion, the autesses that there is a nexus between environmental and economic and social factors which manifests at many levels. This nexus should be evaluated in complexity and in accordance with new sustainable development goals. Ihor strt is important to remove obstacles in the sphere of social consciousness. As an ideology, neoliberalism construed making profit as the essence of democracy, consumption as the only operable form of citizenship, and the irrational assertion that the market solves all problems and also serves as the model for structuring all social relations. Schools and mainstream media as a set of “cultural apparatus” and “public pedagogy” produce mass passivity, conformity and obedience transforming citizens into consumers who forget their political and civic rights and interests, who give up their capability for critical reflexivity. In a process of depoliticization many people relegated to sites of terminal exclusion are forced to negotiate their fates alone, bearing the full responsibility for a society that forces them to bear the weight of problems that are not of their own making and for which they bear no personal blame. The article is a relevant contribution to analyses of alarming social and environmental public problems which should be taken seriously as the problem of human civilization.
