Der folgende Beitrag ist eine Studie zur Entwicklung von Dieter Henrichs früher Theorie des Selbstbewusstseins (in den Jahren von 1966 bis 1980). Sie diskutiert Henrichs verschiedene Versuche, eine zirkuläre Definition des Selbstbewusstseins zu vermeiden, und die Gründe dafür, dass Henrich diese Versuche in den frühen 1980er Jahren schließlich einstellte. Sie skizziert Henrichs gegenwärtigen Begriff der Subjektivität und zeigt, dass die Kontinuität zu seinen früheren Versuchen vor allem in bestimmten Hauptmotiven seines grundsätzlichen Zugangs zum Phänomen des Selbstbewusstseins liegt.

The following contribution is a study in the development of Dieter Henrich’s early theory of subjectivity (1966–1980). It discusses Henrich’s different attempts to avoid a circular definition of self-consciousness and the reasons for why Henrich finally abandoned this project in the early eighties. It outlines Henrich’s actual concept of subjectivity and shows that the continuity with his early theory lies mostly in certain key elements (“Motiven”) of his general approach to this phenomenon.
