L’article porte sur la mise en cause de la répression religieuse par les hussites sur les plans théorique et théologico-canonique. Ne se concentrant pas uniquement sur leur cas personnel, les hérétiques pourchassés prenaient une position polémique qui mettait en doute la légitimité de la peine capitale contre les hérétiques de façon générale ainsi que la légitimité même de la cour dʼinquisition en tant quʼinstitution. Du côté catholique, lʼattention est aussi dirigée vers la question comment les agents de la répression mettent mutuellement en cause leur droit à lʼintervention contre les hérétiques.

The challenges to the Inquisition in the Hussite controversy

This article looks at the Hussites’ theoretical, i.e. theological and canonical questioning of religious repression. Not focusing solely on their personal cases, the persecuted heretics took a polemical stance that challenged the legitimacy of capital punishment against heretics in general, as well as the very legitimacy of the inquisition court as an institution. On the Catholic side, attention is also turned to the question of how the agents of repression mutually questioned their right to intervene against heretics.
