The letters of Bohumír Jan Dlabač to Johann Peter Cerroni
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This study deals with 53 letters of the Strahov Premonstratensian Bohumír Jan Dlabač (1758–1820) and the gubernial official Johann Peter Cerroni (1753‒1826) from years 1792‒1819 (most of which have been published by F. Menčík). Most letters extend over several pages and address multiple topics. Dlabač informed cerroni of news concerning other scholars, of the deaths of his colleagues or of his works in progress. Moreover, the letters document the mutual exchange of materials for the scholarly activities of both correspondents who procured manuscripts and rare book publications for each other. With an exception of four Latin letters from the early 1790s, all of Dlabač’s letters have been written in German, some of them, however contain Latin or Czech sentences or their fragments. Thus, Dlabač’s letters to Cerroni document the decline of Latin in scholarly communication at the end of the 18th century in favour of German.
