The "Digital Turn" of the European Historic Towns Atlas: Comparing Solutions for Digital Atlas Production and online Presentation
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The aim of this study is to summarize how the Historic Towns Atlas, an international comparative project coordinated by the International Commission for the History of Towns, deals with digital dechnologies. More than 520 volumes of the Historic Towns Atlases have been published since 1955. These atlases are hardly available. Until 2014, several national teams used the opportunity of digital technologies in different ways (digital cartography, data storing and presenting etc.) which is demonstrated on three examples: German, Irish and Czech, in the present study. In 2014 the twofold digital strategy for the projects was proclaimed. 1. The most important historical maps should be scanned and published on-line as raster images together with the texts ina searchable form. Every national team is resposable for it. 2. GIS should be applied when elaborating these maps in new volumes. These maps should be found via the newly launched web portal www.staedtegeschichte.de run by the Institute f
