Die Spitäle funktionierten als integrale Bestandteil der adeligen Residenzstädte des Mittelalters und der frühen Neuzeit. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte es handelte sich eher um eine Komponente vor allem mit wohltätigen / charitativen (wenigen medizinischen) Funktion und zugleich stellten die Spitäler eine der Formen der öffentlichen Demonstration der adeligen Barmherzigkeit dar. Dementsprechend befanden sich die Spitäler öfter an den kommunikations- und visuell zentralen Plätzen der adeligen Residenzstädte.

The study presents hospitals as an integral part of the noble medieval and early modern age towns, shows how far, over the centuries, it has been a component with a charitable (less physically real) function and, at the same time, a demonstration of the merciful authority. Accordingly, we find the hospital's premises on the communication and visually busy places of aristocratic residential towns.
