Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The paper describes the life and career of Professor Jiří Svoboda, an internationally recognised Czech archaeologist and paleoanthropologist who celebrated his 70th birthday in 2023. Since the beginning of his professional career, Jiří Svoboda has been involved in the study of Paleolithic and Mesolithic cultures, the origins of art, human evolution, Quaternary geology and, as part of his comparative studies, ethnoarchaeological research on still-living nomadic populations. This intention has gradually evolved into a broad-based, interdisciplinary research of the origins of the first anatomically modern humans in Europe and their physical, social and behavioural adaptations in a changing environmental and cultural context. The results of his research have contributed significantly to expanding our understanding of the Paleolithic settlement of Europe, its hunter-gatherer populations and laid the research foundation for future generations of Paleolithic archaeologists and paleoanthropologists. Alongside his research activities, he also developed a rich teaching activity, mainly at the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno. His activities in the field of popularisation of research are also rich. He regularly published many articles in popular science journals, collaborated in producing a number of documentary films and participated as a co-author in creating museum exhibitions.
