Exploring Fuel Choices in Prehistoric Societies: Wood vs. Bone Utilization in the Gravettian Culture
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The lecture presents the findings of research focused on fuel procurement during the Gravettian culture in southern Poland (Kraków-Spadzista and Jaksice), Czech Republic (Dolní Věstonice I) and Slovakia (Trenčianske Bohuslavice). In the case of fuelwood, the examination focuses on describing the types of trees and shrubs utilised, as well as the quality of the fuel employed in fireplaces (e.g., deadwood, branchwood), to elucidate selection criteria among Paleolithic groups and understand the prevailing climatic conditions surrounding the sites. Additionally, in consideration of radiocarbon dating results, the significance of taxonomic identification of fuelwood before conducting 14C measurements is underscored to address potential taphonomic issues.
