Exploring landscape setting: First results of geomorphological and sedimentological investigations of the mammoth bone site Dolní Věstonice I (Czech Republic)
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The contribution presents a geoscientific research of the large accumulation of mammoth bones at the Gravettian site of Dolní Věstonice I, concentrated both on the site's geomorphological setting and the sedimentary record. Preliminary results show that several larger mass movements differentiate the slope and that the mammoth bone accumulation is located in a depression, postoccupationally impacted by short-distance slope transport, weathering and pedogenesis before being buried by loess sedimentation. The resulting loess sequence illustrates periods of landscape instability (indicated by undulations, cryoturbation and displacements) as well as landscape stability (indicated by weak soil horizons and ice-wedge pseudomorphs).
