The web-based map application MARCOMAP, driven by the data from the MARCOMANNIA dataset, has been developed and made freely available as a comprehensive tool providing access to the presently available archaeological data on the Germanic societies of the ‘Marcomannic’ settlement zone to the west of the Lesser Carpathians. It contains quantitatively representative hierarchically ordered data through the structure of distinguished categories of archaeological components (foremost residential and funerary areas), ‘actions’ (ways of procurement of archaeological information), immovable finds (various types of contexts), and immovable finds (with separated datasets on pottery and other types of material). The MARCOMAP application is complemented with multiple tools that allow for exploring, searching, and querying data from the MARCOMANNIA dataset. It is intended for comprehensive use by both the scientific and general public. It unlocks and mediates entirely new possibilities of various types of exploration and further use of data, compiled within the framework of the research project ‘Protohistoric Communities of the Marcomannic Settlement Zone in the Middle Danube Region - Structure and Dynamics based on Digital Modelling‘ (no. 20-11070S, Czech Science Foundation). It is also intended as a complementary tool for the main output from the research project, where the extent of the input information sources significantly exceeded the possibility of their catalogue-based part of the publication.

Technické parametry

Webová aplikace je provozována na infrastruktuře Archeologického ústavu AV ČR, Brno, v. v. i. v rámci serverové implementace ArcGIS Enterprise. Aplikace zahrnuje vektorové a rastrové vrstvy a sérii nástrojů pro vyhledávání a filtrování dat.

Ekonomické parametry

Webová aplikace představuje jeden z výsledků řešení projektu GA ČR (GA20-11070S) a představuje významný metodologický posun v oblasti zpřístupnění archeologických dat odborné a široké veřejnosti. Zároveň tak slouží k prezentaci výsledků základního výzkumu provozující instituce.
