The aim of the study was to investigate the competition for food resources among of introduced white-tailed deer and other deer species in Central Bohemia. Interspecific foraging relationships were assessed on the basis of the diet composition of individual deer species and their dietary overlap. The composition of WTD winter diet indicated a limitation in good quality food resources. One of the causes of the low quality of its winter diet was depletion of browse, a resource which was exploited by roe,red and fallow deer. In contrast to WTD conifer needles (an indicator of a constraint in the availability of food resources) were an important dietary component of fallow and red deer only during periods of snow cover. This study demonstrates potential competition for food resources between WTD and other species of deer. A shortage of high quality food resources may be one of the mechanisms by which WTD population growth is constrained in the Dobříš Forest.
