Assessment of coal pillar behaviour at great depth using numerical models
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Room and Pillar method was used to develop shaft protection pillar, below 850 m from the surface at CSM mine of Upper Silesian Coal Basin of Czech Republic. First panel V was developed on rhomboid shaped pillars of different sizes by driving roadway of 3.5-4.5 m in height and 5.2 m in width. Field study was conducted using different geo-technical instruments. This study revealed that core of the pillar is softening too due to yielding characteristics. Further, to understand the behaviour of coal pillar, numerical modelling was carried out using FLAC3D. Mohr-Coulomb strain-softening and Mohr-Coulomb plasticity constitutive models were adopted for coal seam/poor strata and competent strata respectively. The extent of yielding of coal pillar was decided by the observed contour of the stresses and tensile/shears failure in the model. Results obtained on numerical models were validated and found to be in good tune with the actual monitored pillar behaviour.
