Název v původním jazyce
From the Crisis of India's Governability to the Puzzle of India's Governance.
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
India?s success in sustaining its democracy while authoritative regimes sprouted in almost all other postcolonial countries regularly puzzles political scientists. For some of them, India has come to epitomize a kind of bright example to be followed by other developing and underdeveloped countries; other academics, given the many ominous features and trends in India?s politics, have been doubtful about the sustainability of India?s democratic development without some kind of major improvement. This review is based predominantly on the comparison of two pivotal publications for the political theory of India: Subrata Mitra?s The Puzzle of India?s Governance and Atul Kohli?s Democracy and Discontent. Its aim is on the base of these two publications to describe the methodological development of current political theory of India, patterns of conceptualizing India?s politics, and the implication and contribution of these patterns to political theory in general.
