Spiritual Healing Among Q?diri ??fis in Modern Hyderabad
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The relationship between Sufism and healing has received considerable scholarly attention. However, while numerous scholars have studied the rituals performed by patients seeking healing through the mediation of dead Sufi saints, few studies have focusedon living Sufi healers. This article discusses the ways in which particular Sufi masters have defined and practised spiritual healing. It is based on the methods of historical anthropology, combining fieldwork with research on primary textual sources inUrdu. Findings show that most of the names and formulas employed in the methods of healing are drawn from the Qur?an, that most of the healing methods are traced back to the Prophet Mu|ammad and based on the traditional Islamic worldview. This article argues that Sufi spiritual healing cannot be considered a folk? or vernacular? form of Islam; rather, it is better conceptualized as a practice that is part of the broader discursive tradition of Islam
