This lecture examines the role of the Tibetan diaspora and the influence of the Dalai Lama in Czech politics since 1990. It explores how the post-communist human rights agenda, strongly shaped by President Václav Havel, positioned the Czech Republic as a visible European supporter of Tibet. The text analyzes political meetings, public diplomacy, and symbolic gestures that have periodically affected Czech–Chinese relations. It also considers the activities of the small but active Tibetan community in the Czech Republic and reflects on how Tibet has functioned as a moral and political symbol within Czech foreign policy debates.
