The purpose of the workshop was to present and discuss final results of the work package "Identity Formation and Enlargement" of the 7FP project RECON, with the focus on: (1) the interplay between democracy, collective identity (and its formation) and the enlargement; the link between democracy and requirements for identity within the various polity models; 2) discussion on the various groups (minorities, women?s groups and students) and their role as 'agents of Europeanisation' at the level of collective identities in Europe; (3) on the contribution of the CEE enlargement experience to the formation of democratic European polity.
