In this essay, I examine the musical libraries of two nineteenth-century Irish Big Houses: Airfield Estate and Killruddery House. The aim of this study is to offer new insight into Irish nineteenth-century cultural practices, especially with a view to repertoire and performance. Moreover, I discuss whether an interdisciplinary approach which engages in more than one branch of the humanities has the potential to foster a better understanding of Europe’s cultural landscape and to what extent such an approach can enrich curricula in third-level education.
