Seine Jazzsongs für das Befreite Theater von Voskovec und Werich kennt in Tschechien quasi jedes Kind. Als bloßer Songschreiber wäre er aber unterschätzt: Jaroslav Ježek (1906–1942) studierte Komposition und Klavier, schrieb Theater- und Filmmusik, verdingte sich als Musikkritiker und Bandleader, und als in Prag schließlich die Nationalsozialisten vor der Tür standen, da wurde er auch noch zum Exilanten. Im effektvollen Klavierkonzert von 1927 geriert er sich noch als ›junger Wilder‹, während seine Orchester- und Kammermusik der Dreißigerjahre ungleich nachdenklichere Töne anschlägt und Einflüsse Stravinskys und Erwin Schulhoffs erkennen lässt. Die musikalischen Gesichter des beinah-blinden Prager Ausnahmetalents stellt David Vondráček erstmals in deutscher Sprache vor.

Virtually everyone in the Czech Republic knows his jazz songs for the Liberated Theater of Voskovec and Werich. As a mere songwriter, however, he would be underestimated: Jaroslav Ježek (1906–1942) studied composition and piano, wrote theater and film music, worked as a music critic and band leader, and when the National Socialists finally were about to occupy Prague, he became an exile. His impressive piano concerto of 1927 is still the work of an ›enfant terrible‹, while his orchestral and chamber music of the 1930s strikes a far more thoughtful note and reveals the influences of Stravinsky and Erwin Schulhoff. David Vondráček presents the musical faces of the almost-blind exceptional talent from Prague for the first time in German.
