The text deals with the iconographic sources for the 16th/17th century alchemical medal deposited in the GNM in Nuremberg. It provides a brief classification of the different types of these art objects and shows that their symbolism was closely tied to the specific circumstances of their creation as well as to the iconographic sources from printed alchemical treatises. The medal makers worked with them in a creative way, as evidenced by the artistic motifs on the medal under analysis.
