New methods collection to identify the building and decoration stones provenance.
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This multidisciplinary study focus on non-destructive research methods applicable for identification of the original material provenance of the historical buildings. The method of reflectance spectroscopy in the near and mid-infrared region of the spectrum (1000-2500 nm) is used for the non-destructive identification of the stone provenance. For each material, a unique spectral reflectance curve can be defined, representing reflectance as a percentage of wavelength. This curve is then confronted with the spectra of materials collected in the the pre-prepared library of materials. The applied traceology methods are used to determine the approximate age of the stone elements to specify the achieved results. Finally, archival and art historical research methods are used. In the research presented here, these methods have been applied as a whole to the examination of historic stone artefacts and masonry in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. The achieved results confirm the high potential of the described set of interdisciplinary methods.
