Ganoderma lucidum extract modifies the effects of 5-fluorouracil in colorectal cancer cell lines.
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Colorectal cancer is the second most common type of cancer and the second common cause of cancer related death in Europe. 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is widely used in treatment of various cancers including CRC, but apart from the cytotoxic effect on cancer cells may also cause adverse toxic side effects. Ganoderma Lucidum (GLC) is a mushroom used in Traditional Eastern Medicine which exhibits anti-cancer and anti-proliferative effects in vitro. The aim of this study is to define interaction between 5FU and GL extracts and their simultaneous effect on survival and DNA damage in several CRC cell lines. The most prominent results is significant decrease survival in CRC lines after combined 5FU and GL treatment and significant increase of damage in HCT116 by 41,6%(0,003)after combined treatment. These facts may have an impact to cancer research and therapy.
