Die Literaturwissenschaft in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts diskutiert die Romane aus dem Studentenmilieu des deutschböhmischen Schriftstellers Karl Hans Strobl mit Bezug auf ihre Genrezugehörigkeit. Die Positionen wechseln dabei je nach Kontext, Perspektive und Interessenlage der Beteiligten. Strobls Romane aus dem Studentenmilieu werden dabei vor allem als "Studentenroman", "Prager Roman" und in den 20čr und 30er Jahren als "Kampfromane" oder "Grenzlandromane" kategorisiert. Die vorliegende Studie beschäftigt sich mit den einzelnen Romane zu rezeptionsintensiven Zeitpunkten, in denen man besonders gut rekonstruieren kann, wie Strobls Romane kommuniziert und interpretiert wurden: beim Erscheinen der Prosa Die Vaclavbude (1902), des Romans und bei der überarbeiteten Neuauflage des Romans Der Schipkapaß (1908) unter dem Titel Die Flamänder von Prag (1932).

In the first half of the 20th century, the student novels by the Czech German-speaking writer Karl Hans Strobl became the object of scholarly debates regarding amongst others their genre classification. This paper analyses the paratexts and the primary reception (critique, literary columns etc.) of Strobl’s novels in moments that allow to reflect the transformation of the communication strategy and their interpretation, that is after the publication of Strobl’s first bestseller, the prose Die Vaclavbude (1902), the novel Das Wirtshaus Zum König Przemysl (1913), and the novel Die Flamänder von Prag (1932), which was the second edition of the novel Der Schipkapaß (1908). While most interpretations at the beginning of the century tended to categorize these books as student novels’ (Studentenroman) and Prague novels’, the same works were in the 1930’s recategorized as novels about conflicts on the ethnical frontier’ (Kampfroman or Grenzlandroman).
