The study contains the analysis of different types of new positive hero of Czech socialist realist novels. Almost all the five main heroic types of Soviet fiction are present in the Czech novels,nin one form or another, yet there is no identifiably consistent way in which certain characteristics were or were not attributed to the characters. The main quality of the Czech positive hero is not something that he possesses, but rather something that he lacks, or at least something that points to a lack: his ability to be aware of his inner doubts, to recognize his own imperfection compared to the great model fathers and mentors, those godlike Soviet people, kind, sensitive and, when necessary, strict and demanding.
