Der Artikel analysiert drei Broschüren des Börsenvereins des deutschen Buchhandels (1841–1845), in denen die im europäischen Vergleich einmalige Effizienz des deutschen Buchhandels und die Rolle Leipzigs als Zentrums des Kommissionsbuchhandels erklärt wird. Argumentiert wird, man könne unmöglich an diesem Knotenpunkt Zensurüberprüfungen durchführen könne, ohne das ganze System zu zerstören.

The article analyzes three brochures published by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association (1841–1845), in which the unique efficiency of the German book trade and the role of Leipzig as a center of the commission book trade are explained. It is argued that it would be impossible to carry out censorship checks at this hub without destroying the entire system.
