Ce chapitre examine les différentes façons dont le défi de la diversité religieuse est abordé à travers trois processus connexes. Il y a d’abord la politisation de la religion, dans laquelle la religion est plus directement impliquée en tant qu’enjeu dans les débats politiques (Ivanescu, 2010), ce qui est ensuite lié aux processus d’institutionnalisation et de sécuritisation. Ainsi, le chapitre met en évidence l’importance des facteurs juridiques, institutionnels et culturels dans la gouvernance de la diversité religieuse, en particulier dans la manière dont ces facteurs influent sur les revendications et les conceptions de la nation en des termes inclusifs ou exclusifs. Reconnaissant l’importance des trajectoires historiques, l’analyse est organisée en trois sections géographico-confessionnelles : l’Europe de l’Ouest protestante, l’Europe du Sud catholique et l’Europe de l’Est orthodoxe , afin de distinguer certains modèles généraux.

This chapter examines the different ways in which the challenge of religious diversity is addressed through three related processes. First, there is the politicisation of religion, in which religion is more directly involved as an issue in political debates (Ivanescu, 2010), which is then linked to the processes of institutionalisation and securitisation. Thus, the chapter highlights the importance of legal, institutional and cultural factors in the governance of religious diversity, particularly in how these factors influence claims and conceptions of the nation in inclusive or exclusive terms. Recognising the importance of historical trajectories, the analysis is organised into three geographically-confessional sections: Protestant Western Europe, Catholic Southern Europe and Orthodox Eastern Europe , in order to distinguish some general patterns.
