Dieser Beitrag führt in die Besonderheiten der europäischen Landschaftstradition ein, bevor unterschiedliche sozial- und kulturanthropologische Forschungsansätze zu Landschaften vorgestellt werden. Diese umfassen zunächst hermeneutisch-kritische Rekonstruktionen eurozentrischer Landschaftsvorstellungen, die auch im Kolonialismus tragend waren. Hinzu kommen phänomenologische Perspektiven, die verkörperte Erfahrungsdimensionen hervorheben, und solche, die multiple Zeitlichkeiten von Landschaften analysieren. Schließlich wird die ontologische Spannung zwischen Natur und Kultur anhand des Konzepts der Kulturlandschaft veranschaulicht und mit den Multispecies Studies eine der jüngsten Perspektiven auf Landschaften vorgestellt. Die vielseitigen und wandlungsfähigen Landschaften entziehen sich jeder Vereindeutigung, sondern sind so komplexe wie erkenntnisreiche Gegenstände umweltethnologischer Forschung.

This chapter introduces the reader to the particularities of the European landscape tradition before presenting different approaches to landscapes in social and cultural anthropology. They include hermeneutic-critical reconstructions of Eurocentric conceptions of landscape, which were also a mainstay of colonialism. Other lenses are provided by phenomenological perspectives that highlight embodied and experiential dimensions, and those that analyse multiple temporalities of landscapes. Finally, the ontological tension between nature and culture is illuminated with the concept of cultural landscape, before multispecies studies are introduced as one of the most recent perspectives on landscapes. Multifarious and versatile, landscapes defy any kind of disambiguation but constitute equally complex and insightful objects of research in environmental anthropology.
