Der Artikel berichtet über einzelne sprachliche Mittel, die im literarischen Werk Heinrich Bölls eine stilistische Rolle spielen, diese werden in Gruppen geordnet und kurz kommentiert. Es handelt sich u. a. um Neologismen, koordinierte Synonyme (oder sinnverwandte Wörter) mit demselben Stamm, Wiederholung von Präposition, Konjunktion, Verbum finitum oder Substantiv statt Komma oder und, verstärkende Wiederholungen von Wörtern als stilistische Figur (Repetitio), Ellipse, kausativer Gebrauch von transitiven Verben und die Metapher. Die literarische Sprache Heinrich Bölls in ihrer Gesamtheit wird jedoch, anders als z. B. die des Thomas Mann, eher als unauffällig eingeschätzt.

This article is an overview of some specific features in the language and style of Heinrich Böll throughout his work. More specifically, the article focuses and briefly comments on the following: neologisms, coordinative synonyms with the same radix, repetition of prepositions, conjunctions, verbum finitum or noun instead of comma or and, repetition of words as a stylistic figure (Repetition), ellipsis, causative verbs and the metaphor. Nevertheless, in contrast to the language of, for instance, Thomas Mann, the language of Heinrich Böll presents itself as inconspicuous to the reader.
