The essay investigates Czechoslovakia before and after 1989, whereby it analyzes the background of this crucial year as well as the results and changes it brought. Part 1 depicts the establishment of communist régime and analyzes the reasons for its fall. Following the ?Velvet Revolution? as delineated in Part 2, the interparty struggle, political and economic measures as well as lustration in 1990?1998 are analyzed in Parts 3-5. At the end of the essay, an attempt will be made to draw preliminary conclusions about the changes achieved in Czech society.
