El texto aborda el tema de las múltiples y multifacéticas relaciones entre Cuba y Checoslovaquia en la segunda mitad del s. XX a través del personaje de František Kriegel (1908-1979), político y médico checo, enviado a Cuba como asesor del sistema de salud cubano en 1960. Con el uso de sus diarios personales, que Kriegel llevó durante toda su estancia en Cuba (1960-1963), son reproducidos e interpretados algunos de sus puntos de vista y opiniones sobre los cambios realizados y las direcciones tomadas por el régimen cubano en aquella época. Asimismo es discutido el impacto de la Crisis de octubre (1962) en las relaciones mutuas.

The text deals with the issue of the multifaceted and complex relations between Cuba and Czechoslovakia in the second half of 20th century through the character of František Kriegel (1908-1979), Czech politician and physician, sent to Cuba as advisor tothe Cuban health system in 1960. With the use of his diaries, which Kriegel kept throughout his stay in Cuba (1960-1963), some of his opinions on the changes carried out by the revolutionary Cuban government are reproduced and interpreted. The impact ofthe October Crisis (1962) on mutual relations is also discussed.
