Das Kapitel beleuchtet die vielen Herausforderungen, denen sich Juden in den böhmischen Ländern seit dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs gegenübersahen. Sie erinnert uns daran, dass es neben der Demographie der Zerstörung und der Entvölkerung nach dem Krieg auch eine Demographie der Rückkehr und der Wiederbevölkerung gab. Die transnationale Dimension jüdischen Lebens in den böhmischen Ländern spitzte sich nach 1945 aufgrund mehrerer jüdischer Auswanderungswellen sowie der zentralen Rolle, die internationale jüdische Institutionen bei der Unterstützung jüdischen Lebens in den böhmischen Ländern spielten, zu. In diesem Zusammenhang waren auch die internationalen Beziehungen der Tschechoslowakei von großer Bedeutung. Dies ist ein zentraler Grund, weshalb die jüdische Gemeinde seit 1951 antizionistischer Propaganda standhalten musste. Zugleich beanspruchte der Staat, seinen Bürgern Religionsfreiheit und die Achtung der Menschenrechte zu garantieren. Das ermöglichte einen begrenzten Aushandlungsspielraum.

The chapter highlights the many challenges that Jews in the Bohemian countries have faced since the end of World War II. It reminds us that in addition to the demography of destruction and depopulation after the war, there was also a demography of return and repopulation. The transnational dimension of Jewish life in the Bohemian lands came to a head after 1945 due to several waves of Jewish emigration and the central role that international Jewish institutions played in supporting Jewish life in the Bohemian lands. The international relations of Czechoslovakia were of great importance in this context. This is a central reason why the Jewish community has had to withstand anti-Zionist propaganda since 1951. At the same time, the state claimed to guarantee its citizens religious freedom and respect for human rights. This allowed a limited space of negotiation.
