Der Aufsatz analysiert die Aktivitäten von dem Jüdischen Historischen Institut in Warschau seit der Gründung in der zweiten Hälfte der vierziger Jahre bis in die 1960er. Die Analyse konzentriert sich auf die Rolle des Instituts als der einzigen Forschungsorganisation des Holocaustes im kommunistischen Polen, auf deren Einfluss auf die nationale und internationale Debatte um den Holocaust und auch auf den Einfluss des Kalten Krieges auf die Perzeption der frühen polnisch-jüdischen Holocaustforschung. Insbesondere sind die Spielräume für die Aktivitäten des Institutes analysiert.

This article examines the activities of the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw from its establishment in the second half of the 1940s until the 1960s. The analysis focuses on the Institute's role as a Jewish Holocaust research institution in communist Poland, its influence on the national and international debate on the Holocaust, and the impact of the Cold War on the perception of early Polish Jewish Holocaust research. A special focus is placed on the options and scope for action of the Institute and its staff.
