Mit dem Anschluss der Region Hlučín (Hultschin) an das Deutsche Reich erhielt die lokale Bevölkerung die deutsche Staatsbürgerschaft. Für die Männer bedeutete dies auch, dass sie zum Wehrdienst verpflichtet wurden. Diese Verpflichtung galt für mehr als 12.000 von ihnen. Einige von ihnen beteiligten sich an verschiedenen nationalsozialistischen Organisationen, einige traten freiwillig in die Wehrmacht ein, andere desertierten bei der ersten Gelegenheit aus der deutschen Armee. Einige von ihnen, die während des Krieges in alliierte Gefangenschaft gerieten, bewarben sich um die Aufnahme in die tschechoslowakische Exilarmee. Die meisten von ihnen befanden sich nach dem Krieg in einer komplizierten Situation. Die Tschechoslowakische Regierung gewährte ihnen meist nicht den Status eines Widerstandskämpfers, und die Bevölkerung von Hlučín sah sie oft als Verräter und Abenteurer an.

Upon the annexation of the Hlučín Region to the German Reich, the local population was given German citizenship. For the men, it also meant the military service became compulsory for them. This obligation applied to more than 12,000 of them. Some of the soldiers from the Hlučín Region who were captured by the Allies during the war applied to join the Czechoslovak Army-in-exile. Some of them participated in various Nazi organizations, some of them joined the Wehrmacht voluntarily, while others deserted from the German Army at the first opportunity. Most of them found themselves in a complicated situation after the war. For the most part, the government did not grant them the status of a resistance fighter, and the Hlučín population often saw them as traitors and adventurers.
