Václav Janovec, Czech theoretical physicist and enthusiastic promoter of symmetry approach to ferroic phase transitions and domain boundaries, passed away on Wednesday, February 16th, 2022, just a few days before his 92nd birthday. Václav Janovec was known for being a great teacher, always emphasizing the importance of well-formulated questions and arguments. He was invited to read both regular and special lectures at the Charles University of Prague, University of Dijon, Karlsruhe, Montpellier, Rennes and other places. In 1995, he was promoted as a Professor at the Technical University of Liberec. His kind regard will remain in our memory forever together with his significant scientific achievements.
