The paper refers about preparation of themes for the future 7th programme of research supported from the European Commission which started as a joint activity of large European construction industry companies and scientific bodies. The work has been carried out within the so called European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP) which established four vertical (Cities and Buildings, Underground Structures, Networks, Cultural Heritage) and two horizontal (Materials, Quality of Life) Focus Areas. Urban problems are covered by two FA ? Cities & Buildings and Cultural Heritage (FACH), where a specialized Working Group ?City & Territorial Problems? has been established. Preliminary strategic considerations are presented.
