Pesticide transport through tropical soils
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
With a development of new chemical compounds, the Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA) is supposed to register new pesticides, which are already EPA-registered, according to their leachability under field conditions. To test these new chemicals, an extensive field and laboratory experiments were carried out at University of Hawaii. Five sites were established on three Hawaii islands, representing distinct climatic, soil-chemical and hydrological conditions. During 16 weeks of the field experiments, plots were irrigated with aerial sprinklers and the concentration distributions in soil profile were detected. Likewise, laboratory experiments were involved in this study, particularly batch tests, degradation experiments, soil-water retention measurements, and column displacement experiment. Final results and recommendations should assess the potential leaching of applied chemicals thus the state authority would be able to prohibit or register respective pesticide product.
