Název v původním jazyce
Cadmium Transport in the Soil Profile during Heavy Rainstorm
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The main objective is the prediction of cadmium transport in variably-saturated structured porous media under conditions when heavy rainstorms can occur after prolonged dry periods. This research has been motivated by an increased vulnerability of the groundwater resources in regard to widespread use of agricultural fertilizers with cadmium. The field infiltration experiments accompanied by a dye tracer test have revealed significant preferential flow effects. Therefore, the dual-permeability approach, which accounts for the preferential flow component, had to be considered. The rainfall event occurred in July, 1999 and total cumulative rate was 151 mm during 17 hours. The dual-permeability approach predicts the occurrence of cadmium residua substantially below the root zone within a short period of time. The implementation of rate-limited sorption in the soil matrix domain during infiltration is shown to be less important for dual-permeability cadmium transport.
