Use of ultrasound for a historical objects investigation
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Not only performance of historical object itself, but also performance of building materials is investigated within construction and technical research. It is appropriate to use non-destructive testing methods to determine mechanical properties of material, because they leave almost no remains or damages after testing as the other methods do. A measuring of ultrasound velocity belongs among the most known methods and has been using for a long time. It is possible to detect hidden defects, cracks or heterogeneities and to determine an important mechanical property - dynamic modulus of elasticity, by this method. In the paper there is demonstrated use of the method for various materials in-situ and in the lab, also. In-situ testing was used for investigation of timber structure members of the Masaryk Railway Station in Prague during its reconstruction in 2011. A device used for tests was Sylvatest, a machine with special conical transducers designed for wood. The original aim of laborato
