At the present time grows interest of using round timber for the load-bearing structures in building industry. The use of round timber as a load-bearing element leads to major savings in material in comparison to the use of sawn timber which creates large quantities of waste in the process. Mechanical properties of round timber are different from sawn timber. Design of connections of load-bearing construction elements highly affects durability and resistance of timber constructions. Knowledge about thebehaviour of round timber is not sufficient yet. The specific rules for the assessment of round timber and in particular their connections are not included in The European standards for the design of timber structures (Eurocode 5). The article deals withround timber joints in different types of stress. The connections are examined with respect to different variations of connections and their arrangement.
