SOIL EROSION AND SEDIMENT TRANSPORT PROCESSES AS IMPORTANT NON-POINT POLLUTION SOURCES IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Assessment of soil erosion and phosphorus loads causing eutrophication of stagnant water bodies is the aim of a running joint research project. In basins covering almost 40% of the Czech Republic the aim is to capture all point and diffuse sources of phosphorus, such as trigger eutrophying element. All sources with the exception of erosion can be quite reliably estimated with regular monitoring of water flows. The problem is the monthly continual stream monitoring (aquired by state) often misses the sediment transport isodes. The erosion connected mainly to flash floods is highly episodic. Therefore erosion phosphorus is only possible to determine by models. In our case it is modeled by WATEM/SEDEM model including the complex stream topology and reservoirs' trap efficiency. The results are coupled with balances of other sources and target areas for compensation measures are proposed. Many nation-wide databases show data gaps that have to be completed and revised by detailed data survey
