Discovering of human activity traces in the landscape by using ALS in the Czech Republic
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The DSM (digital surface model) displayed in appropriate form, e.g. as a shaded relief, can be used as a data source for searching for archaeological sites and discovering of other historical human activities visible on the surface. Aerial laser scanningdata acquisition is generally unfortunately too expensive for non-commercial projects for large areas. From this reason, a big project was searched, which use the ALS (airborne laser scanning) data primarily for another purpose, preferably for public service. The data by The Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre were tested. The aim was to find, if it is possible to use these data (characterized by density of about 1-2 point/m2) for archaeological purpose. We used the DTM in form of shaded relief and inspect the data around few well known archaeological sites from different periods. It is also possible to use different outputs from the original DTM to better display terrain discontinuities, which could be caused by human act
